Is Helm the 👑 of micro-brands?

I’m talkin’ pound for pound value to money world champion. Two year plus waiting list and as far as I can tell he (Matt Cross) doesn’t even bother with reviewers! It looks like all the reviewers either use borrowed Helms or they had to wait on the list like everyone else. This is the most enthusiast friendly approach ever in my opinion.

(full disclosure of course I’ve just gotten a Helm!) 😁💪🌈

When it comes to waiting/waiting list for a product I see it now and days more as a negative. With the rise of consumerism and companies playing the hype game and making few items to make it seem there's more demand vs supply is getting a bit old. We saw it with Yezzy, Nike, Nvidia, Rolex, etc. While I have prepaid and waited for watches I think it was more painful knowing there's a trillion more option.

In my personal Opinion Zelos and Baltic have innovated and have shown what a microbrand can do. While Helm I think is a "more bang for the buck" type of brand.

I see what you’re saying but I think there’s a difference. Helm isn’t creating a false demand and I never see them hyping. That’s what I mean, he doesn’t even give free watches to reviewers so they’ll tell watch collectors to buy it. It seems they’re making the watches as fast as they can while still maintaining the quality but they can’t keep up with the demand because the quality is that good. I like Zelos and Baltic but they don’t make any watches at this price that I would wait for. I actually see getting on a waiting list and waiting forever to get a great watch at a great price as the counter to todays consumerism habits but I will admit I do not know anything about economics. Thank you for that reply! 🌈

I think when it comes to what's best is more of a personal opinion. The reason I put Baltic for offering a micro-rotor and a great dress watch for under $600 USD Most microbrands go the diver route they went the unpopular dress watch route.

Zelos have been making some great watches and dials pushing what a microbrand can achieve not just sticking to dive watches or just affordable watches.

That said I do hope to see your review and thoughts on your Helm watch.

Just put my name on the Helm list! Lol

I read somewhere he does a lottery type drawing occasionally so there’s always a chance you might “get the call” or you know email lol sooner than you expect. This is what I’m hoping for!😂 I’m currently seven thousand and something for the Komodo

I get that pound for pound the quality may be very nice, but to be the king of micro brands I would expect some innovation, at least on the design side. I know dive watches are popular, but does the world really need more variation of dive watches? 😂 I prefer the approach of Cameron Weiss (field watches) or Baltic (dress watches and vintage-style divers).

All excellent points 👏

I‘m curious for pictures of your Helm though! I like that you can kind of put together your own build. I would argue this is one of the big selling points for them
