How Seiko SNZG13 won me over

This watch is super special to me. I work in tech SEO & web analytics, and like many others in my field, I take great pride in my work. I always look for perfection, and I'm not satisfied until I've achieved it.

This Seiko SNZG-13J was my first mechanical watch, and compared to the quartz watches I had before, it didn't keep a good time. Of course, that's completely normal, but I didn't know how mechanical watches work. Seiko was around 15 seconds late per day. The movement is from the "famous" 7S series, 7s36 in the case of this field watch.

At first, accuracy bothered me. I even wanted to take it to a local watchmaker and get it regulated. Then came the dings and scratches. 😠

But somehow, as I wore it, I started to appreciate it more. Also, whenever I got stuck on a problem or was feeling overwhelmed, I would look down at the watch on my wrist at enjoy the sweep of the second hand. In a way, that kinda helped me reset my thoughts.

Today it's beat up, and honestly I rarely wear it, but when I do, I always remind myself to loosen up, chill the f-out, and stop looking for perfection. 🙏

Here it is on a Haveston canvas pass-through strap, with a huge fingerprint on the crystal, but who cares 😂

This is great, watches for reducing stress and anxiety! 👍

For me it's more about the realization that imperfections are OK, and that they can make something unique and special.

Great philosophy! Never heard of a mechanical watch described that way before? Nice take on it bro ... well done! 😎

Love the pic and the sentiment here too! My first real mechanical was an SKX009 that I still sometimes kick myself for moving on...

Like you what drew me into it more than anything was the sweep of the second hand. Still to this day I am a HUGE sucker for a sweeping second hand over the stop tick of a quartz.

I had a Serica 4512 not long ago that I really did enjoy, but I found myself not wearing it as much due to it being manual and not auto. Small thing and really wasn't a huge deal breaker since I still would wind and wear it. Since moving on from it I've been on the hunt for a solid GADA field style watch. These Seiko's have always been a good value prop for me, but just can't decide what to pull trigger on haha
