So a week or so ago I asked my fellow WC people for some help identifying my father’s Wittnauer. Thanks to some helpful folk, I now know its reference number and value. I will say it’s not really an expensive piece but it’s still a nice looking watch, especially with a new strap. Anyway, this goes to show you the whole point of our hobby. Sometimes sentimental value over monetary value wins out.

Thank God it's a classically tasteful watch. I can't imagine the mixed emotion of having an heirloom that was of oddly dated or otherwise dubious tastes that one just did not share. I suspect anyone of decent character would learn to appreciate it nonetheless.
Financial value is realistically as much a hindrance as a benefit. Anything deemed too dear becomes a white elephant to be preserved instead of used and enjoyed.
