Homage Watches Timex Omega

This is a perfect example for the whole homage watch argument. Folks are getting crap for wearing Pagani Design watches with sapphire crystals only because they borrow design cues of more well known watches but aren't direct copies with the names on them.

MEANWHILE we have Timex here giving off Omega Moon watch vibes...but I guess just because Timex is also a big company with history, they won't get homage hate on this watch. I saw this ad on social media while wearing my Pagani Design watch inspired by the Omega Speed master and had to do a double take.

Man, I just saw an ad for this watch in Facebook. Interesting 😮

Omega is nice but that timex is better value for the same functions while looking cool doing it.

Indeed it is sometimes difficult to see what is “hommage” and what resembles “plagiarism”. I totally get your point and sometimes struggle with it as well.

It looks more like a Zenith than an Omega, but even then it doesn't look enough like any Zenith to make me think of Zenith at a glance.

I wish people would just give up on homage bashing, it's tired and overplayed. It's just watch hipsterism...

In my brief time on this site, I have not noticed that much of a bias against homage watches. I do see individuals comparing different brands that offer homage watches almost exclusively in order to rate them which makes sense. Are you saying Pagani is otherwise comparable to Timex based on catalogue?

I didnt even think of Omega when I saw this

My Pagani vs Timex comparison is more so a China made watch considered by many to be a cheap knockoff by default (despite having some really nice stuff actually) vs the more established Timex brand that also has borrowed design choices but a lot of people wouldn't call that a knockoff because the brand is Timex

It's hard to compare a fairly new company with a company that's been around for decades. But if we are talking catalog, let's look at the fact that Pagani has managed to have sapphire crystals and 316L stainless steel on a vast majority of their watches that are a third of the cost of more of Timex's more expensive pieces that have mineral glass.

The Timex Q is similar in that it's a panda dial three register chronograph... but that's it.

Also, when speaking of Timex, they have existed since 1854 and have an extensive catalog of designs both original and borrowed. That buys them a bit more slack when they make watches that lean heavily on other designs(all brands do it). That said, because they are an affordable watch manufacturer the snobs still hate them...

Pagani was started as a brand that copied designs, but manufactured them cheaply in China. I have no problem with it, but some people do.

Frankly, I couldn't care less. I like the looks of (and would shamelessly wear) both the Pagani Design and Timex Q chronos; homage or not ... doesn't matter to me, as I'm far from a "purest" LOL!! 😉

Almost every aspect of the watch is different. Case, bezel, chapter ring, sub dials, pushers, date window, hands dont look the same meanwhile other companies are selling basically copies with their own name slapped on it.

QC issues use to the the recurrent topic about chinese homages, but now owing a handful of current timex models, and a handful of chinese ones, i rely more on the quality of the chinese ones, tbh...
