So, yesterday my Seiko SNKL41 turned 1 week old. I checked it before going to bed to see how far off it was. I was surprised to see that it was only 8 seconds fast after one week. Not bad for an old 7S26 movement.
Nice! The 7S26 is a ticket to the accuracy lottery (well, all Seiko movements are, but especially the 7S26). Have three in the collection: one running +39s, one +20spd, and one +1spd. The two faster runners will get one maybe two days of wrist time before going back to the watch box. The +1, an SNXS79, will be a daily for a week or more.
Unregulated movements are a lottery. Sometimes you get a donkey at the extreme end of the tolerances running +30s/day. Sometimes you get a beast within COSC tolerances. 👍
At the end of the day, regulating Seiko movements is fairly simple and will only cost you $25-$50 at a local watchmaker, or to buy a basic timegrapher. Some people get too hang up about factory regulation when it's such a small expense to fix if you were unlucky.

I'm lucky, my LWM only charges me $5 to adjust my watches for accuracy.
You know, you can buy a watch tool kit for like $25, use your phone as a timegrapher, and make your own luck, right?
Oh I know. I'm working up to it. My LWM only charges me $5 to adjust the accuracy of my watches. So, it's kinda hard to break away from his service and do it myself. 😉
Sometimes the stars align and you can get a real banger of a 7S26. I had one of those seiko 5s that I didn’t adjust for 3 weeks and it was off by only a few seconds.
