Seiko SARX045

The right strap can make a watch sing and let you fall in love with it again. I had purchased the SARX045 about six years back. Enjoyed it for awhile before losing interest as my watch collection grew. Almost came close to giving it away to an acquaintance so it could be put to good use. Luckily for me, I tried it with this new blue rubber strap and it made the watch absolutely pop.

The SARX045 is an interesting mix of angular sports watch design paired with some dressy elements. I had a hard time finding a worthy alternate to the h-link bracelet it came on; the bracelet by the way was surprisingly good for a Seiko. However, this blue rubber strap pairing makes it a perfect GADA watch except for formal occasions.

A standout feature is the blue dial with the vertical stripes that have the tiniest bit of light grey in them. Based on lighting conditions, the dial can present near black or various shades of blue. Likewise the vertical stripes can appear prominent on a sunny day and add a lot of visual interest. However, in more muted lighting situations the vertical lines largely disappear. The framed date window is also a nice touch along with the half polish and half brushed finishing of the hour and minutes hands.

With this post I wanted to show the SARX045 a bit of love as I felt it has been somewhat overlooked within Seiko’s recent offerings. Also, can’t beat the impressive value proposition considering I purchased this new for ~$400 from an AD.

That's a great combo. Usually I think contrast will help a watch pop. But that strap looks like it was born for that watch.

A new strap is cheaper than a new watch but triggers those endorphins just the same 😁

Beautiful!

It's really enjoyable to start wearing a neglected watch again and/or putting it on a different bracelet or strap.

I like a rubber strap and your new blue one looks great. If you want a more formal look, consider a grey strap for your blue watch. I have a grey nylon one that mimics a mesh strap.

I agree, it gives the watch an entirely new feel and also very enjoyable to find the right pairing. The grey color is a good idea!

"A new strap . . . triggers those endorphins just the same." Yes it does!
