Grand Seiko SBGK005

The SBGK005 is my formal dress watch but surprisingly versatile and pairs effortlessly with more relaxed attire especially if you swap out the very soft and lovely alligator deployant strap for something more casual

The case design is curvaceous, interesting, and wears slim and beautifully on wrist. The finishing of the case and hands is a showcase for Grand Seiko’s mastery; the hands manage to capture and reflect even the tiniest bit of light in a dark room.

The dial is mesmerizing with a sunburst effect and a fur or grain like pattern that seems to radiate from the center to the edges of the dial. It takes on different hues of blue, from a shimmering rich shade to much lighter tones, based on the lighting conditions. At the Grand Seiko boutique, the dial was what initially caught my eye and having owned this watch for a few years it continues to remain alluring.

I have no qualms with the power reserve and small seconds hands on the dial. The only change I would consider is the printing of the GS Lion in blue on the see through caseback. They should have made the logo smaller or done it in a clear design to limit the obstruction of the manual wind movement. Hardly, a show stopper.

While a limited edition (1500 pieces), I am sure there are still a few floating around. If you get the chance, I would recommend giving it a few minutes of your attention to see if it grabs your interest.

That case shape from GS is something I have to have one day! They've done a few now, such as the Omiwatari, but I'm not quite taken by that even though it's a very popular seller. Yours looks fantastic, glad you still enjoy it! 👌🏻

That is the best watch strap combo I have seen for this reference. Great taste my friend!
