Seiko Belt Buckle Watch Ref 2100-3180

I recently acquired this belt buckle watch from Seiko, reference number 2100-3180 from the 70's. Caliber 21D - a 17 jewel manual winder with a deep blue dial and baton hands. The movement looks clean and is still running good. Power reserve at around 2 days. The buckle is paladium plated and will take 2.5cm or 1 inch wide belt.

I currently have it on a custom made black leather belt. Still need to find a proper occasion where I can wear this with formal pants, perhaps on some special dinner or important company meetings.

Update: Online research indicates that this belt watch was intended for golfers, to avoid shocks that can ruin a watch. It was during those time when shock resistance was not yet common to these small calibers.

So how do you check the time without appearing awkward? Haha

I don't, can't even see the buckle with my big belly 😅

Very interesting indeed. Makes sense, in a weird way, for a time when shock resistance was still being worked on.

Agree with others though, be hella awkward to check the time, especially if one is concerned about time, or being late. All those waist checks (🤔 vs wrist checks) is DEF gonna send a weird/wrong impression.

“You want to know the time? Let me just check my crotch. It’s 7… ma’am? Ma’am, where are you goimg? Ma’am?”
