These vintage Seiko watches just turned 37, and so will I - birth month and year watches.
Birth month and year Seikos were always part of my collecting journey. Passively checking online and flipping to check the caseback of every vintage seiko I can find in the flea market - Because on the back of every Seiko watch is a serial number that can be used to date the production of the watch.
The first digit of the serial number is the year in which the watch was built. We also know the movement inside the watch, and most of them were only manufactured for a short period of time. Researching online, we can precisely know the decade of the watch.
The second digit specifies the month of manufacture. The 12 months are denoted by 1-9 for January to September, ‘0’ for October, ‘N’ for November and ‘D’ for December. The remaining numbers simply form an incremental counter.
