DIY bezel and case brushing: before/after

I bought this Pagani Ranger homage not long ago (I wanted to try this explorer-esque style of watches) and it’s a great watch, especially considering that I paid $50 for it.

However, I didn’t like that the bezel and the sides of the case were extra shiny because of the extensive polishing.

So, I watched a YouTube tutorial on how to do brushing yourself and went to the local store to buy this:

Then I carefully brushed the bezel and the case sides. I am no professional and had never dealt with any kind of metal work whatsoever, but I think it turned out very nice. A few more pics:

It might look a little bit coarse and not that fine, but honestly I don’t want to ruin it completely while trying to make it perfect; this will do 😁

I just think that a field watch like this should not be extra shiny. If I’m not mistaken, the original Tudor is also fully brushed.

Anyway, really like how it turned out and kinda proud that I managed to do it myself, although it was not difficult at all!

That looks great 👍. I’ve considered doing that with my Stienhart but I’m afraid I might really stuff it up. Maybe now I will try it.

You may want to take it to a watch technician and see what he can do with it. I bought a leather strap from my a local watch store but the buckle was polished and didn't match the brushing on the Hamilton watch I bought it for. The AD had me go next door for lunch and when I came back he had brushed it amazingly similar to the fine brushing on my Hamilton.

I would have paid more than the watch cost itself if I had gone for a professional brushing 😂

I think it works great as it is 😁

Nice work.

I have that Pagani and while I don’t mind the polished parts, I have wondered about brushing. i may have to give it a try.

Thanks! Well, a Steinhart is ten times more expensive than this watch, so I would hesitate as well 😅

Glad it’s encouraging! Yeah, it’s a matter of preference. I just really wanted it to be all brushed for some reason 😂

£50?! That's superb 👏🏻👏🏻

Nice job on the brushing, far more tooly 👍🏻👍🏻

I have done this type of brushing before, but used a rotary demmel with various types brushing pads.

San martin had a ranger copy as well, which is less polished. You can check it out. Sn0107

Looks great & a Pagani is perfect for DIY projects.

I've considered something similar for one of mine.

Wow, it seems so easy. And the result looks pretty, pretty, preeeetty good! I have one watch that the case is completely brushed except for the space between the lugs, which brothers me a lot.

I might feel brave on day to give it a try. But, It is not a 50 bucks watch though....

I could also try with a strap buckle that is polish, but in my taste, I should be brushed.

·

Even thought it may not be everybodies taste but the bound you make with a belonging is second to none. Hope you enjoy using it. Well done👍

Because of the smaller size (my preferred size), matching hand/indices color (the Tudor did not), and polished bezel, this is a homage watch in a truer sense than an actual copy. Which is also why I don't mind the polished bezel.

·

Nice job, I might have to buy one myself 🤔

·

My PD Milgauss homage I think is polished perfectly! The added grain does compliment the sort of utility watch look though, well done!!

Idk why, but I found SM Ranger homages less appealing to my taste, although I know that they’re much better built and finished.

True, polished was not bad, it’s just me and my desire to make it appear more tooly lol

It looks good bro 👍🏼

Not perfectly concentric, but that is nearly impossible to get by hand. The important thing is that it looks like you masked or removed the bracelet to there is no overbrushing spilling out onto other surfaces. Did the sides of the bracelet get done? They really stand out on the side photo.

I removed the bracelet and masked all the surfaces I didn’t want to get over brushed with tape.

I’m actually okay with the polished bracelet sides, but now that you’ve mentioned it I might do them later 😁
