How much + / - a day is too much?

Hello, I have several watches that have automatic movements. One Citizen and one Orient. I notice in them that both speed up, in my opinion by quite a lot - about 30 seconds a day. Is that too much for you? Both watches are new and bought no more than 2 months ago. What is your opinion?

Is it within specs for those movement? A reliable watch maker from my home country, Vietnam, told me that the Epson movement in affordable Orient watches tend to run fast. My experience with Miyota movements is quite consistent, and they are usually about 10s fast a day. Personally I like my watches to gain no more than 15s a day, and not lose time. If it bothers you, getting them regulated is an option

I would not be troubled by that. They have watches that run better but that would cost more or have a battery in them.

·

Too much. Maybe the movements are just dropped in their cases without adjustment, or maybe magnetised?

Is this error while wearing them? As this can be noticeably different than if they are just sitting somewhere, face up.

Normally if my watch has accuracy > 10s (+/-) i will send to watchmaker to check and adjust 😁

That's probably what my Seiko 5 runs were I to time it. Assuming we're on the lower end of the price scale, it's to be expected. A watchmaker, maybe yourself, can regulate it to be closer if it really matters to you.

Get a timegrapher, case back opener, gasket lube.

Depending how many watches you have, cheaper than someone else doing it, plus a great feeling of satisfaction.

As its a new watch easy to do oneself.

Old watches that are dirty... different kettle of fish.

I Would love for a watch to run within +/-10 seconds per day. After all, that is the most basic purpose of a watch- to tell time. It is one of my judgement criteria on a mechanical watch's build quality. If it keeps time poorly, i think it's trash. Looking at you seiko 6R35 😝

I have no watchmaking skills and i dont know how to regulate my watches. I expect them to run well out of the box, and the expectation is higher as soon as it hits the $1,000 usd price range.

That said, since i rotate my watches daily, accuracy isn't as impactful to me compared to just having one watch.

30spd isn't terrible, and both watches should be easy to regulate. I get mine close to 5spd, averaged across the different positions.

30 seconds a day! My cheapo Aliexpress ones all run better than that. Even better after adjustment, all have Seiko NH 35 movements. Honestly it's so easy to do. Just bite the bullet. 😊

I had a Vostok run more than 2 minutes slow per day, so my perspective might be skewed. Now I've got it to +2spd. But if I really wanted accuracy, I would go with quartz.
