Omega announces Le Laboratoire de Précision

I guess Master Chronometer with METAS wasn't enough...

Also probably this means new movements with whatever this new certification is are coming...

Created by Omega yet neutral and independent - I'm sceptical 🫤

Should imagine it's their "Spirate" regulation system being rolled out .

Gotta move the goalposts now Tudor are going METAS, can't have inferior brands catching up! 😁👍🏻

You may well be right. Spirate is amazingly accurate... and yet it generated hardly any excitement at all.

And yes, I am OCD about my (expensive) watches' accuracy 😂

Indeed. People get a lot more excited about a white dial than a new movement technology. I think it's cool bit I'm not sure it's necessary. I'd rather they make them thinner, which is also a technical feat since making a bigger movement is easier and I don't care about accuracy if I don't want to wear it... What that can do to a line of watches was put on full display by the Black Bay 58.

Absolutely. Omega is going to probably make SPIRATE into a big selling point

MAYBE this is for their new Quartz watches 😄

You're not alone, I'm pretty obsessed with my expensive watches accuracy too 👍🏻👍🏻😁

Me too. My Omega, Grand Seiko and Damasko are all in their stated specs.

I am geeky on Omega movement tech - so I guess I need to start saving! 😆🤷

Pretty much the opposite of me, I'm not too fussed about looks, as long as it's not an attention grabber and not ugly I'm far more of an accuracy nut!

Amazes me how many folks see their watches as man-jewellery.

To each their own 😉

And new movements would mean higher prices.

Here’s an article that describes what’s going on. But in a nutshell:

Omega has created a competitor to COSC with two labs that is theoretically open to any company. The big differentiators, as far as I can tell, are:

  • Instead of checking accuracy every 24 hours over 15 days, accuracy is monitored continuously over that time period

  • Tests can be custom programmed for whatever the movement manufacturer wants to test rather than following a stock program

I think it’s probably right to assume that the Spirate system will be important here, as being able to quickly adjust a movement that’s out of spec will be very useful for a continuously monitored test.

Exactly 🤣 Omega isn't doing this for free

Very cool. Continuous monitoring will show you how a movement runs from 100% power to 0% power
