AP offering complimentary theft and damage insurance

Looks like Audemars Piguet has rolled out their new coverage service. Any watch purchased from them (starting in 2022) gets 2 years of complimentary theft and damage insurance. In the event of a theft, they'll either replace the watch or provide cash.

This sounds like an industry first?

What do you think? Should all luxury watch brands offer this same level of service?

Why only two years? Is that the useable life of a $70,000.00 Royal Oak? I think it's a great idea that will get people to wear their watches rather them hiding them. Is it valid on the west coast where stealing has become tolerated?

AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss

Get everything included in AppleCare+ and up to two incidents of theft or loss coverage every 12 months. Each incident is subject to the excess fee listed below. Theft and loss coverage requires you to have Find My enabled on your device at the time it is lost or stolen and throughout the claims process.

Not sure about the industry first, it sounds a lot like AP(ple) Care 😜?

Personally, if I am worried about theft, damage or have any other safety related concerns then I don't wear/buy/own the thing.

Makes me think I should probably insure my -no where near as expensive as an AP- watch collection.

I hope to see something like this take off. Realistically, more than two years of cover is needed, because watches last and keep their value for far longer than that. If a pin-pallet Oris can run for seventy years, surely a well-made and advanced Audemars Piguet can do it too; it's even something of value, which can't be said of old Orises that often get tossed when the movement conks out.

Coming from South Africa, people will steal the skin from your bones, which is why I often steer clear of the cities. If I feel worried about a Seiko 5 in a small town, I can't imagine what it would be like wearing an AP in London or Johannesburg at night.

Good on you, AP. Just pull through with it.

True Apple offers a great service with AppleCare+, but that isn't complimentary.

true, with the AP you're paying for it whether you like it or not 😉

but jokes aside I think it is a good thing that they offer this sort of insurance even though most AP are being kept hidden in some safe... I have only ever seen one in the wild and that was many years ago. perhaps they come out more often due to this 😀👍
