Actually what do people think about Perrelet?

I got this when I was 20. I was young and just thought the turbine design was cool and such a conversation starter. I didn’t know much (or anything) about watches back then and they claim to be the first automatic watch maker? I’ve never seen anybody talk about them and no big watch YouTubers ever mention this brand. So I’ve always been curious about what is the story behind Perrelet and how does the watch community think about them. Hopefully I can get some input here! Would love to hear all your opinions!

No real experience here, but I have handled a few of them; they seem to be a decent quality watch.

I did some quick little research because I never came across so far with that brand.

So, first of all it seems to be an authentic brand.

Never the less there are some strange things. Although the watch brand is claimed to be founded in 1777 and I also found it on a list with every existing watch brand and their founding year. I didn't found any further informations on other websites which lists the oldest brands.

I mean after BlancPain 1735, Vacheron 1755 Constantin and Breguet 1775, Perrelet should be the fourth oldest watch company. Even these websites don't has to be correct, but as a brand that old and as an inventor of the self winding watch, I'm surprised that no one talkes about it.

But also their own website is very poor when it comes to their history information. I mean...comon...you are an 250 years old brand and you have nothing to tell except to invent the first automatic poket watch?

The fact is that Abraham-Louis Perrelet is one of those who claimed to invent the watch. But I couldn't read anything anywhere about that he had founded a watch brand. He were an inventor. He invented several things and he was producing some parts without any branding and signatures for other watchbrands like Breguet, and just some single watches.

Ok....and now there is this watch brand named after him and saying that they are founded 1777?

As you know many watch brands (even high luxury) try to get a founding year under their logo which is as old as possible. But some companies were disappeared on the meanwhile and just brought back to life by purchasing the licences for the brand name for example.

Or the company was producing something else for 200 years .

But it's very strange the website is so empty and poor.

What I can say is, that the brand was purchased 2004 by the Festina group. Festina was swiss watch brand till it were bought by spanish and moved to Spain. Since them they are producing with several (fashion and toyish) brands for department stores.

To be owned by Festina could be the answer for this empty website, the none existing marketing and poor management of that brand.

Festina, even a watch producers, has actually no clue about watches and how to manage a brand.

Even they are located in Biel/Bienne Switzerland, a big watch city where a lot brands are located, I doubt that they produce in Switzerland. At least they don't do by them selfs. Because on their adres is just a small house without a manufacturing where the Festina office is located.

It can be that they produce in overseas or outside of switzerlans or simply ordering and ansembiling the parts at one of the many private lable producers in Biel. But I wonder why there is no "swiss made" on their dials.

Anyway.. I don't want to sound bad about the brand. There are just so many unanswered questions.

If you like that unique design it's totally ok. I just don't know if their prices like 4K are worth it.

Thank you so much for all the information. I honestly didn’t know anything and still don’t about this brand. Hahaha. Hopefully we can get some questions answered soon.

If these are available in the United States, it is news to me. I literally never heard of them. I suspect the marketing is low key to non-existent. How did you find out about them?

I saw them on Instagram before and thought they were cool and one of the local AD’s here carried them. The AD has since shut down though. 😅
