Sicura Stunt Watch

Back in the early 80s, I purchased this Stunt watch. I was taken in by the dial, and It was my main watch for many years. I don't remember why I stopped wearing it, but sometime thereafter, I lost track of it. Today, while looking for something else, I came across it, buried at the bottom of a basket of odds and ends. I imagine after all the years it spent there that the battery has likely leaked, and the movement may be shot as a result. In any case, I will see what my watch guy has to say.

Looking on the internet, it is hard to come by information about this watch. I did learn that it was made by Sicura, an old brand. It is Swiss made, and features a Rhonda movement. The owner of Sicura bought the rights to Breitling in 1979. Breitling had suspended operations in 1978 due to the quartz "crisis." Shortly after getting the rights to the Breitling name, Sicura came to the end of its road, as Breitling became the focus of the company. My understanding is that Breitling came out with a quartz model that was similar to the Stunt watch. Whatever the case, Stunt watches were not long on the scene, which is too bad.

After finding the watch, I was shocked at how small it is. A quick measure found it to be about 1 and 3/8th inches across, which converts to about 35mm. Despite its small size, I still like the look of the watch, and will see about getting it back in running order.

It looks nice. The design would look right at home on a lot of new microbrands.

I have to admit it took me way too long to figure out 'Stunt' was the brand. I kept trying to figure out what a "stunt watch" was. :)

By the looks at that watch growing up in the 70s if that watch would of been a lot in a TV show series it would of been a hit seller until this day.
