Threw on the Mako today, and it occurred to me that I don’t view this as a very “big” watch, even though it’s nearly 42mm in diameter and 47mm lug-to-lug. This got me thinking, what do you think of this model and watches around this size? Do you think of them as larger or smaller watches, or just mid-size? It’s all relative, not good or bad, but what do you think makes a watch feel bigger or smaller?

Dive watches have a way of fooling you into thinking they're smaller since the dial is smaller to accommodate the rotating bezel. A 40mm dress watch will almost always seem larger than a dive watch that has the same dimensions, for example.
I had my Mako on today and was thinking the same thing. I guess that's why you should really try something on before you buy.

Good point, the bezel is certainly deceptive that way. I think a 40mm dress watch wouldn’t suit my tastes at all, so maybe I have a preference more for dial size than case size.

I agree, that would be ideal. Though I’ve never tried one on before purchase, it’s so difficult to find a store that stocks non-luxury watches.
I find diameter not to be too important in whether a watch feels big or not, and lug size and thickness has a much larger impact on how it feels.

Very true. That's why Amazon is my friend 🤣 got to love the return policy.

100%. Wish there were more microbrand offerings on Amazon!
Mako is a normal size watch. Optimal size for a diver is 40-44mm in my opinion.
Recently tried on a 40mm Planet Ocean that Omega launched last summer in the 75th anniversary series of blue divers, normally the PO is a watch that I planned on buying but the 40mm size was just awkward made the robust watch appear small and thick. No sale, sometimes the proportion needs to be considered carefully. A few other persons felt the same, none of us are giants, wrist size around 7.5-8 inches.

Interesting, usually Omega’s proportions seem more balanced. I suppose that’s a compromise for the crazy water resistance, I’ve always preferred the look of the classic Seamaster 300
POV for me its about lug to lug if thats too long its a deal breaker…my threshold is 47. i can rock a 38 Hammy or go all the way to 45 if lug to lug stays in the sweetspot.
