30th Birthday Present

Everybody love a good story behind a watch and I hope that mine will keep you crunchers entertained.

Got myself a Rolex 126720VTNR to remind myself of this eventful year.

Started a business with my boss at the start of the year but I realise I am not meant that as I went through depression and anxiety attack every single day during that period. I was extremely lucky that my boss and my wife step in and encouraged me to go and visit a doctor or else I'll not be able to write this post about my watch 😂. In the end, I sold my business back to my boss and went back to a salaried worker.

In the past, I always thought that I must have a business of my own, maybe due to ego issue or just wanting to earn much more than my peers. But this episode make me realise that life isn't just about competing with others and making yourself work like a dog. Sometimes, it is about slowing down the pace and enjoy life as it is.

So my first ever Rolex is to remind me to slow down my pace every now and then to enjoy my life and always remind myself of this episode.

There is so much more to life than working. Very happy to hear you realized this at 30! I have had so many patients over the years who work themselves into the ground and are so chronically ill by retirement that they cannot enjoy it. Happy birthday and enjoy your new watch! 🥳

Beautiful timepiece! An awesome birthday present indeed!

I was founder and CEO of a company for 6 years. Raised venture capital funding, grew from 1 employee (me) to 100 in the first year.

WORST 6 YEARS OF MY LIFE!!!

Wouldn’t wish that misery on anyone. Great job getting out of that horrible predicament, OP! Only better days ahead!

Glad you had the sense and support to do what your health required. Your wisdom is certainly worth celebrating, and you’ve done that with style. Here’s hoping the next thirty years bring continued health, and more cool watches.

I had a very similar situation with my own business and couldn’t believe the level of happiness I achieved not having to manage everything that came with it when I decided to walk away. I feel it’s almost sophomoric to believe that owning your own business will have you making more money, or is the ultimate form of success. You usually work twice as hard as a salaried job with half the amount of pay, because you work 24/7 and carry the burden of any issue that arises. Plus you are always the one to have to cut the check and compromise. I remember walking through my family’s business with people in elevated positions making a handsome salary playing candy crush on their phone. It made me realize that most people sell their time, and aren’t always on the clock. Good thing you came out of it while, because in so many cases in my situation there were many dark moments and I am greatful to say I am the happiest I’ve ever been just being “regular”.
