Vintage Seikos in Tokyo

Just got back from a week in Tokyo and got to put hands on some incredible vintage Seikos from the 50s and 60s. It’s incredible how well they tend to hold up and how contemporary the sizing and designs generally feel.

The prices are also pretty reasonable due to the strength of the US dollar against the Yen right now, though the stuff you’d expect to be expensive certainly was…

While the Seiko Museum was certainly fun, it was far more interesting to hit the vintage shops and be able to try these pieces on and know that it’s possible to get well-preserved and reliable models out there.

It was hard not to take that one home—maybe my favorite of what I saw

Nice my friend 👌 would love to go one day,did you get yourself anything.

I will be going to Tokyo this (northern hemisphere) summer. Would you tell me where can you find the vintage Seiko shops? Last time I was there I visited Nakano Broadway but more as a curiosity and amusement than to actually shop because I live in another price range reality.

Great pictures!

Regrettably, no! I promised myself I would come back the next day after making a decision and time didn’t allow for a return visit. I may ask a friend who lives in Tokyo to pick up the one I wanted, though!

Thanks! All of these are from shops in and around Nakano Broadway, so you’ve got my tip already!

Damn. I was just in Tokyo in October and wish I'd made the time to go look at some watches. Oh well, I'll just have to go back!

It was really between those two. I also tried on a new JDM “The Citizen” chronomaster and…wow. I honestly was ready to buy it right there—it was gorgeous and fit perfectly—until I noticed a piece of debris under the crystal.

Good spotting, not something you would have liked finding out when you got home, chronomasters are really nice 👌 citizens doing some amazing watches of late, love the 01 but out of my price bracket, and don't think I've seen one being sold.
