Breitling has always been part of my watch conversations with patient Mr. Alex, but I was not interested in making any purchases. Nothing against quality or craftsmanship, it just didn't feel right then.
Another insomnia filled evening, I found myself in the YouTube rabbit hole of Breitling videos and this model struck a cord in my racing loving heart.
Finding a nice day to venture into the city lined with watch shops (and other temptations), I visited the boutique for the first time. (I won't bore you with that story, see my post from last week😁).
Welcome the B01 Corvette to the watch box! 🎉🎊
So how do we feel about it now, away from the ambiance and perfect boutique lighting? Still the same, I have to say!
There was that wow moment lifting the flap and just staring at it without taking it out of the box.
The red dial is still the perfect red I remember it to be and the dial details are 👌
The branding maybe a bit too much or too packed for some, but I think this is what the watch is going for and with that said, all are placed nicely without it feeling too crowded.
The bevelling (hope my term is correct) on the subdials give it just the right depth perception adding to it's "racing character". It really is like a race car with all of the branding on their car, only this is on the watch.
Still have not removed the plastic from the back, and just enjoying the transparent case back. There are details here, that can keep me entertained for hours. I do wish they made this so that the flags were correctly centered and not wonky (for the price, I think this is a valid comment) but that's just me.
Wearability on small wrists is always the next question. On the wrist, you do feel a substantial weight. But nothing different from wearing the GMT or the Sub. At 40mm in diameter, it has enough dial real estate while the lug to lug on the wrist pushes it to the limits for me, but still manages to look tapered, specially on a leather strap. The thickness is close to that of my Panerai and can still slip easily into my sleeve. Overall a comfortable wear for me, and time will tell if it stays this way (which I'm sure it will 😄)
The watch comes with a sporty leather strap, which goes well with the whole vibe of the watch. Itsy bitsy teeny tiny wrist me would have had to wait 1month before an XS strap would be available. So I opted for what was available and looked good on the watch. And it was an alligator strap with contrast stitiching. I wish I could show you a wrist roll that you can see how it looks, and hopefully this will do for now. To me, it makes the watch more me and I'm quite happy with how it turned out.
That's the story of my first (and maybe only) Breitling. Teaching me that I can enjoy out of my watch comfort zone and be very happy with the end result 😄
