Review. Good looking watch, but bad implemented

I am not atracted to quartz watches but a solar powered, radio controlled, Bluetooth watch sound better, on paper.

I live in a area without radio signal for watch sync, so Bluetooth could be the next best thing to sync the watch.

The watch itself looks nice, wear great and feel quality for the price.

But, last week I was in a different country, in a airport and i try to sync the watch. Bluetooth on, location on, casio watch app on. Tap connection on the app, push the button on the watch. And nothing... Try again... nothing. After 30 min of trying, I give up.

Disappointed, verry disappointed.

When i returned home the Bluetooth connection works perfectly.

Probably the Bluetooth Casio App works only at home, I don't know. And now I just don't care.

After this red flag, I start analyze the Casio Watch App.

I start whith the conclusion: Casio App is a piece of shield.

Casio App is just a harvesting data app from phone users and a marketing tool. Probably I have more than ten- twenty apps in my phone who harvest data. And I don't care about them, thy are free apps.

But If I buy a object and after that Casio ask acces to my location, my photos, my contact list and who knows what more, just for a watch to work as specified, this is not OK.

From a Bluetooth analogic simple watch I expect to work, only acces needed is the time on my phone. The permisions asked for Casio App, location, contacts and photo are just excessive and confusing.

Please, don't give me the: You should inform yourself before purchasing. I didn't expect from a Japan brand, such practices.

Because of the Not working Bluetooth connection if I am not at home I will substract a star from my review.

Because of Casio App, I will substract another two stars from my review.

Later edit.

I removed some inappropriate words and deleted some of my inappropriate comments.

The conclusion remain: the only differentiator that could recommend buying T200 is the Bluetooth connection, but the app used for this connection is not what it supposed to be.

If you are not using the Bluetooth connection you can ignore the 3 penalty points that caracterize my personal experience.

  • It have the look! Something like a X-factor
  • Wears perfect even if the numbers suggest different. Round wrist 16cm, watch 41.5mm and 49mm lug to lug
  • Good build quality for price
  • The lume. It is not the kind of lume for show-off in pictures but I was able to read the time from 21pm to 6 am whithout any helping light.
  • Casio Watch App is a piece of shield.
  • The dial design is great from distance, but when analized from small distance, is a little boring.
  • The date window

I think your experience may be an isolated case. I've had 2 Oceanus models (S100 and G2000E) and both work fine with or without the app. I'm sorry you've had such a let down - I'd be angry as well if a watch that has only had great reviews decided to not work when I finally got it. Even the app for that matter. But as far as my experience goes, it's (both watches) been 6 stars out of 5.

I've had an Oceanus for many years, live in NYC, and it has also kept great time

Wow, how frustrating! And what does Casio need access to your pictures for? Boo, casio, disappointing

If you don’t want to, don’t buy the watch. The privacy policy is available online for an informed purchase. It’s a “smart” product, it needs data. You also don’t have to buy it, and therefore you can return it if you don’t want to play with Casio.

There used to be a specific Oceanus app which worked a bit better. Lots of complaints about the new all in one Casio app.

Can't say I remember any issues with syncing while traveling, but I also wasnt paying specific attention. Next time I go somewhere I'll take it and check.

Finally a review below 4 stars 😂

So I don't have an Oceanus, but I have G-Shocks and an Edifice model with Bluetooth. I do think the app definitely needs some improvement. For me although it will sometimes take more than one attempt the time on the watch will sync with the time on the cell phone. What I have an issue with is that although it may be showing the correct time, the app sometimes doesn't show the correct the time zone I am in, depite the app having access to your geo location. It's really strange. Of course that's a bit more of minor issue for me. The app could be improved at recognizing the time zone you are in and understanding whether it's a "home" time or "local" time. I feel like they tried to do it but doesn't seem to work correctly. But at least in my case at least it will actually sync the time from the phone.

Is it mandatory to connect that watch with your phone, or does it also work on its own?

The watch works on its own, without any app. It can be set up without any Bluetooth connection or radiotower, but it will be a bit tricky.

No, if I was in a area whith radio signal for sync the time (DCF77), i would never install Casio App. And probably not buying T200, because the need for a Bluetooth sync watch would not exist.

·

I think the radio-control is a good alternative, even in an area without a signal. There are apps faking that signal, and as those watches run fine without the signal, you only use it once in a while to make the time more accurate, switch timezones, adjust to DST etc

I don't know if I was clear enough whith my 3star penalty. I like technology. And I want technology to work, when I need it. If I am using a tool for a specific task, I need that tool to be precise and simple, if possible. Not full whith commercials and marketing stuff. A free App? Ok, shoot me whith banners and marketing materials. If is something I payed for, please take your marketing brochure and shove it in a place where sun never touch you. And the consent for harvesting data is asked in a misleading way, when you install the Casio App. Maybe someone will check all the boxes. The consent for data must be asked just for specific functions of the watch, any questions extra are just traps. Maybe it is not illegal but It is not what I expect. The IoT has become a total madness, and things are way out of control. This is not new: HumancentiPad South Park was made in 2011 I have dozens of Bluetooth objects, and i know how they can work. But Casio sell a dumb 3hand and date watch and try to pretend this is a "smart object" just to make me install one crappy App and give them acces to my phone. JUST COPY THE TIME FROM MY PHONE AND SEND IT TO THE WATCH VIA BLUETOOTH!!! This is the only needed thing to do. The extras are just crap. Absurd times we live, we have to consult a lawyer and read 100 pages of disclaimers just for buying a dumb quartz economic watch. Probably, this technological madness is what drive us all to mechanical watches...
