Introducing the Kruger SE:

The Kruger SE is an alternate version of the chrono model launched in early 2022, featuring an asymmetrical dial layout and the VK67 mechaquartz movement. Instead of numerals, you get bold batons in X1-C3 SuperLuminova for maximum night legibility. The date is offset between 4h and 5h, and now the model name is shown in red, tying in with the red chrono hand.

Why the Kruger SE? Since starting Draken I've always avoided symmetrical dial designs. I'm a huge fan of the Oris Big Crown collection, and about a year ago a Oris Big Crown Chrono came up for sale here on the local auction site Trademe. It was an auto chrono in a style that I liked and could afford! I landed up buying it and the asymmetrical dial design really grew on me. I realised that this style is something I shouldn't shy away from, but embrace.

Since the VK63 of the Kruger is completely interchangeable with the VK67, it made sense to add it as a variant. The bold baton hour markers lined up neatly with the bezel markers and the sub-dials used a very similar design to the standard Kruger, albeit now there was a 12h chrono counter instead of the 24h sub-dial. I also liked that this layout allowed for space to include the model name and movement type. In the end it was actually easier to design than expected - I only wish I had done it sooner!
