Grail check

It’s been almost a year since it joined the ranks of my collection. Omega couldn’t have made a good looking diver and I don’t know what’s keeping them from reissuing this. How do I feel now? This is some uncharted territory for me. I actually never thought I’d be getting one. Maybe a few questions from you might help. Calling all of you who had their grail(s) and also the ones still searching for the right one in the right moment—any questions, thoughts welcome. Let’s have a conversation.

I know grail is hard to obtain or hard to find. I personally I think is the long road that leads you to a brick wall and you say this is it. For me is the Hanhart 417es.

Here's mine, had it since 2020. Bought used & had it serviced. Genuinely love it more everyday, & find it hard not to wear it everyday.

Yes that Seamaster you want is an absolute Grail, love it but wouldn't want one myself purely because it's an old watch and I'd want to wear it the majority of the time.

Maybe look for a newer alternative?

If I was a wealthy fella & I owned several watches of the same level of desirability (to me) then I'd definitely have it as wrist time (ie wear & tear) would be spread.

Tricky one..

And yes I hope Omega redo it, along with the 2254. Seems daft that they haven't, but I guess they're saving them as they're totally bankable designs.

Anyhoo, you've excellent taste, Good Luck 👍🏻

For me it was my birth year Slim Willard. 6105-8000 from march 1970. I only wear it when I know I will not be involved in anything remotely physical, or with 20m of any water, and no doors...walls are a no go... looks like it owns me vs. me owning it. I now understand why "that douchebag in the porsche" parks way off at the end of the parking lot.

I’ve always wanted that Seamaster you got there, but the one from Spectre. But I found it chunky and large on my wrist. Still a great looking watch to me.

Oh man but with proper pressure test and gasket replacements it should go in the water and also this watch is tough and still serviceable—life is short, use it.

This Seamaster has been serviced and pressure tested for diving but the only thing that keeps me from taking it to water is the Bakelite insert where in most cases the seal is no longer keeping water from seeping thru the tritium. Tritium expands and will bleed out even crack the Bakelite. I’m considering getting a new bezel with a new insert from Omega just so I can use it while keeping the original safe. More on the Bakelite stuff, you’ll see lots of these references for sale and had shitty looking inserts. Most of them were caused by watchmakers who have no clue and dunked it in the ultrasonic.

Ahh the legendary Spencer Klein. I’ve been meaning to send him my 63097290 for a proper service. Does he still have a long queue?

Ahh, I love the Aqua Terra. I have a 38mm from 2018 with the teak pattern. It wasn’t a grail but it’s the watch I’ll be keeping if I had to sell the rest. Bought it to celebrate a number of things.

That’s a great looking watch, what year is that?

I’ve been waiting for Omega to reissue this watch for over a decade. I’ve given up hope at this point. Beautiful piece, may it last you many lifetimes.

Just checked it out. He's not even accepting service slots at this time. There is also an outfit in canada called- the seikoligist. I will reach out to them.

I’ve been trying to reach out Blairwatch Project and Wristwatch Revival but I don’t think they’re taking any jobs at the moment. The latter especially I can’t seem to reach him.

I emailed back and forth with Blairwatch Project about the serial number of the 6105-8000 as the serial number started with a "D" vs a 0 (see pic) Turns out for the first 480 casebacks stamped in March of 1970, the machinist grabbed a D instead of a 0 die for the stamp. I found several posts listing watches from the same month that also had a D vs 0, and Blairwatch confirmed he had seen a few from the same month all of which were between 0090 and 0480- so we're assuming it was the whole run from 0001 to at least 0480 as the rest of the examples were above 0623 had the proper 0. Its a neat lil quirk.

The SM 165.024 is one of my grails, as well. My fingers are crossed Omega will release a reissue soon. It seems inevitable, and makes perfect sense. I'm mean, the design is iconic. In the meantime, I have modern SM300 Heritage and SM300 1957 reissue. A reissue of the 165.024 would complete my Trinty!

This is my grail that I haven't obtained yet. I've been so close many times but since I have a SPB313 I've always found something else to get. Is it everything you hoped for??

Yes. It just settles into your wrist. The weight and case shape make it super conformable. The bezel has been turned a thousand times, yet its still smooth with just the right weigh and resistance. I am super thrilled every time I look at it on my wrist. I think- 'here's this little machine, that has been plugging away, doing its thing for exactly a month longer than I have'. Runs +12, which is amazing after all these years.

There is also the nerdy stuff like the Proof/Proof & Proof/Resist stuff that you only see on these transitional models from late 69 to mid 70. Spencer Klein and Blairwatch youtube channels helped me know what to look for. Mine was cheaper than most as it has a small dial touch-up just next to the 9 lume plot. There are a bunch out there- comes down to budget, but I see most for @ 1700ish.

Thanks for the info. I might just have to make this one my next. Thanks again and congratulations!
