My First G-Shock

G-Shock and its Indestructibility

What’s your first watch? Better yet what’s your first G-Shock?

Back in the year 2000, it was my first birthday after coming back home to Indonesia from the States. To be frank, me and my sister had our struggles going through school with mainly the language barrier with our peers. As me and my sisters birthday both fall at the end of November, we were both given our first wrist watches, and mine was this exact G-Shock.

After about 10 years of good use, I left it in a drawer at home and never used it again as I’ve been working and studying abroad. Which brought me to look for this piece after all these years. When I found it, yeah the humidity ruined the silicone casing of the watch but the rest is basically intact. After 20 plus years this is how it looks like.

I was always annoyed as my dad didn’t want me to get the classic square 5600, and he said an analog face will always be a classic. And to that I can now agree that there is an art behind an analog watch. Even currently I got the GA-2100 coincidentally another Ana-digi G-Shock.

Truly loved owning this watch ever since elementary school, and wondering whether I could bring it back for a service. Not sure if a simple battery change will bring it back to life, but the 4 pushers are also in a dire condition.

Anyway that’s my story, wondering if there are any other stories similar to mine 😊 🍻

I agree with your Dad about analog watches. My first G-Shock was this G-Steel.
