Being an Authorized Dealer

Hello everyone

Does anyone know how to become an AD? I want to start a watch shop selling watches like Seiko, Longines, Oris, etc. I don't want to sell high end watches. What are the requirements? How do you go about it? Do you have any info on the subject?

  • Start by writing a business plan. Then get a business loan, rent out space and contact manufacturers. Citizens, Seiko and related firms should be easy to get. From there most manufacturers will want you to have a going concern before they AD you and even then it will not be the upper end brands.

  • Then if somebody is dealing say Oris in your area and you want to carry them, it will depend upon if they think they have sufficient market penetration in your area.

It is a long tenuous road.

The Gen Z and Younger millennial route would to become some sort of social media influencer at which pt watch companies would be happier to do business with you. But that’s easier said than done . . . That’s a ton of work and not everybody has that skill set or presence.

Start a watch store front online with bulk watch purchases or dropshipped watches. Alibaba sells wholesale. Once you have a market presence buying from wholesalers hit up the manufacturers for bulk sales.

Franchises are too expensive and the risk is all yours. Usually a big bond up front and a hefty purchase price and monthly costs.

I don't think getting a storefront on Amazon is difficult.

I saw a video where Nico Leonard said that when he first applied to become an AD for G-Shock, Casio turned him down. 2 years later they invited him to apply again. Clearly because of his YouTube reach.
