Laps is a small French-based watch brand seeking to mix affordable horology and fine arts. Let's say they are a gallic version of the British Mister Jones (the fun watchmaker in chief, in my humble opinion).
My watch has a rectangle-shaped silver case of 39mm by 30mm for an 8mm thickness. The lug width is 20mm, and a black leather strap connects with my 17cm wrist. The dial is made out of a piece of black pebbled calf leather with no indices, yet this absence is reinforced by a set of baton hands where small recesses feature small amounts of black leather.
My watch, the Perfecto Noir Édition Limitée, is powered by the Swiss-made quartz Ronda movement; it has a 30m water resistance, just about splash-resistant.
The watch is understated, classic or even dull, but that was the very point of buying it in the first place; it feels at ease at black tie events or with jeans and a t-shirt. It is part of my rotation, but for obvious reasons, it does not see the light of day very often, yet every time it does, pleasure is overwhelmingly here. I really enjoy using both quartz and mechanical watches; the latter ooze history while the former are darn too practical in many cases of staggeringly good accuracy.
Laps do have some more daring designs, but I happen to sit proudly at the opposite ends of their range (Captain Boring at your service, ladies and gentlemen, lol). I would advise you to check them out. For instance, they have an item featuring a picture of a soon-to-be-president-of-the-French-republic jumping the Parisian metro turnstile; the now-debunked urban legend said he was dodging fares: priceless!
