Threw on the Alinghi today.

Fun fact which I was disappointed about if I'm being honest. Breitling made the movement for this watch. Is that in house snobbery? I think I'm disappointed that they don't really advertise it in the specs on the website. They say what calibre is used but its up to the consumer to do the research. I still like the watch and I understand that Breitling make decent movements. I guess it came as a surprise more than anything.

Conversely Tudor made the movement in this one. The annoying bit for me is that they are both made in a way which means only they can repair/service them - something which car manufacturers were effectively banned from doing a while back (in the UK/EU).

Interesting. Are you saying Tudor has to service your watch? I don't know yet who services mine. It's a fairly new piece.

No, it goes to Breitling, yours will go to Tudor. But try taking it to your local watchmaker for a simple fix and they can't do anything with it. Mine needed regulating recently - which is a pretty simple task - turns out the regulation lever has a cover which can only be removed with a special tool. It's a dodgy practice if you ask me.

That’s what happens with ‘in house’ movements. Those they have moved away from ETA/ Selitta movements (which could be performed by any competent watch maker). Guess it’s the price we pay for ‘in house’.

·

Breitling have a history with Chronographs and more so than Tudor. Both worked in conjunction with each other. Breitling use Tudors (Kenisses) 3 hand movement whilst Tudor use Breitlings (B01 - name could be wrong) chronograph movement.

It used to be standard practise back in the day. With specialised company’s dealing with movements for most brand.

Agreed, but they should make it clear to buyers. But they won't because it would possibly put people off making the purchase. Most only find out when they have a problem.

It's called a B20 in my Breitling 3 hander.

To be honest every AD I’ve been too and purchased any watch with an in house movement do make that clear

It was the issue of 'in house' that actually made me go and buy my TAG Monaco before I'd planned to - a watch I'd always wanted anyway TBH. The AD told me they were about to go in-house for movements so I made sure I got my hands on the model they had in stock at that point. I have a TAG specialist on my doorstep and I know he can service/repair mine at a significantly lower cost and more quickly than LVMH can!!

Great watch I had the Calibre11 McQueen Monaco for 8m. Iconic, although part of me feels very expensive RRP for a modular movement. For that price point I’d expect in house. Just a shame that variant wouldn’t be in house.

I personally prefer the additional benefits of in house - power reserve etc for the price, it does bug me the RRP demanded for some ETA/ Selitta by some of the Swiss brands

·

Movements swap between Breitling and Tudor was well reported on years ago, I imagine it was a benefit to both companies perhaps more for Tudor customers since BO1 movements in Breitling watches retail for quite higher prices than Tudor chronographs that share the BO1. Seem to recall guys on Fratello posts raving about the Alinghi Chrono being a good cost effective purchase.

·

They should let make Breitling the rest of the watch too. That way it could actually look passable 🤷🏻‍♂️

I just want a reliable watch which my Breitling - lovely as it is - hasn't proved to be. The definition of in-house is a bit odd anyway, a few companies have moved to the Kenissi movement - TAG included for some models - so for me that's no different than where we were previously in the days of modified ETA/Selita. Main difference seems to be who can repair/service them.

Hello what is the weight like? what's the bezel like? what's the strap like? a lot of money isn't it for a watch and a fabric strap 🥺

·

Ooo love the colors 😍

·
McBeardy

🥱 maybe put some over polishing on it & a power reserve you may like it?

Yep.

I just like it when one of my watches is like that ;)

What I like even more is when a brand has nice to look at hour hands that have a „symbiosis“ with the accompanying minute hand.

And if the watches have sub-dials it’s also nice if they can be read at almost all hands positions.

In short: Tudor is loved because the name‘s on the dial and not because of their „innovation“ in any aspect. Maybe the big brother is also one of the factors. The first point is underscored by the OP's "disappointment" with having a Tudor with a Breitling movement... Who knows 🤷🏻‍♂️

PS: Thanks for putting in the effort and checking my profile :)

Is this ceramic, carbon, or aluminum bezel insert?

Not much effort or time. But just see you having the same arguement & points on Tudor whenever Tudor are mentioned. You’ve really got to let it go. Ah yes those lovely hands with no lume pointless in the dark. Let’s not forgot the habit of day dates accompanying everything to keep that balance on the dial. The less said about the tolerances the better & the size of those cases, nice and small right? Bracelet quality as well, mustnt forget that.

Haha, you‘re quite hurt.

Sorry if I got you at „Tudor“ ;)

Not hurt, I like all watches (unless quartz haha). But I also don’t go around bashing certain brands. They’re really not that important in the grand scheme of things

Another Tudor I absolutely love!

Breitling provides chrono movements to Tudor and Kinessi (Tudor) provides regular movements to Breitling. Breitling chronograph movements are amongst the best

The weight is fine. The fabric strap is not an issue. RM has half million dollar watches with fabric straps...

B01 movement at a fraction of the cost in a good looking watch! Hot diggity!
