Talisman; waxing poetic

We are not supposed to wax poetic about a watch. A watch is just a tool. I purchased a Seiko SRPJ45 a month or two ago to scratch an itch, and I forgot just how much I love having a watch on my wrist. I do wear many bracelets. I have an Apple Watch. I have been a watch enthusiast since the 80’s. I own two other watches; Swatch and Sea-Gull. This watch, Seiko SBSC009, was to be my everyday beater watch, every watch must meet this criteria, but soon I realized I wanted a GMT complication so when I’m not traveling I can set it for my friends in the US and when traveling I can keep it set at Vietnam time.

My decision to purchase this watch came at the same time I decided to make several changes in my life; my move to Vietnam, new job, divest a lot of material things, and a conscious effort to work on my health; so this watch has become a talisman, an object to remind me of these things, to motivate me.

Recently, it has become apparent that my Seiko may not arrive, but at the same time of this recognition, the perfect watch for this talisman came to my attention, a San Martin SN0129B. A $300+ GMT watch with a white dial and orange/red 4th hand. What also makes this a perfect object is it’s a Guangdong China company, and I currently live in Guangdong Province in China.

After a day, it has its challenges, but it's been an enjoyable watch to wear. I sleep in my watches, at times, as well so it was a comfortable wear even for that. Let's see how it feels months from now...
