Bonding with a Watch

Today, I'm drawing and wearing my "Tiffany blue" San Martin. It's a great watch, amazing quality for the price. But that alone isn't enough. I find I bond with a watch once I wear it doing something I love to do. I love to fiddle with it while I search for inspiration. The feel of that quality steel gives me energy.

First time I had this feeling was when I was browsing at a book store. I felt the watch almost vibrate like a heart beat. It made me glance down and smile. It felt alive.

Don't get me wrong. I love to fuss over the technical specs like the movement, polishing of the dial, history of the piece. But I'm not a spec guy. It's creating memories with a watch that makes the bond.

Anyone else do the same thing? Do you bring your watch to personal experiences to connect it?

I look at specs, but I find it’s the overall look and feel of a watch that I love. I’ll find that there are details on a watch I’ve never noticed because I was always just seeing the whole package.

Man you got it bad!!!!

That's why you joined this group.

I fall in love every other week. I get that watch and wrist her and the love is there. What happens next? Another love shows up in my searches and feeds. I get that new love on my wrist and that tingly feeling happens again. I love them all and it's hard to part our ways.

I tell the wife just one more lol

Hey seriously enjoy the watch and the moment!

Cheers

I actually find it somewhat difficult to associate memories with a watch I was wearing at the time. I always seem to forget about my watch at such times. But learning details about the history of the designer, country of origin, original purpose, or an artistic movement that inspired the design, seems to help me connect with a watch and really appreciate and understand how and why it is as it is.

I wouldn’t say it’s the memories for me, but rather the experiences. Taking my watch on adventures in the RV, camping, hiking, swimming, fishing. Going on vacations and road trips. It’s like owning golf clubs, guns, fishing poles, etc. You see the watch and you think about the things you did and start planning the next expedition.

Yeah it has to become an integral part of my life. The aesthetics of the watch has to contribute to the experience. And the timekeeping of course. I took my "mission impossible" g shock to a Vegas trip with my buddies. Didn't know what you expect ;-).

I find learning about the history of the watch company very important. Recently, I've been obsessing over the "moonwatch". But Omega makes so many versions, it's hard to connect with one. My head was spinning.

Another thing I'm finding is that I definitely prefer certain watches over others depending on the mood and activity. I used to wear my divers for drawing; but now, it's all pretty dials. It fits the mood much better.

You want the moonwatch professional. That’s THE moonwatch.

36 watches in a year - that's not a watch collection - it's a divorce (Unless they were all F-91w's)
