This is the question. I have a white dial Seamaster Diver 300 and I decided on that as my tool watch after debating the Explorer II. The Explorer (I) wasn't on my radar because I have a datejust 36 (steel and yellow gold) with a smooth bezel so that scratches that itch.
People love to rag on Rolex, but that is a beautiful watch. Iconic, built like a tank to last a lifetime and the subtle details and refinement. Congrats and wear in great health!
That's what this was all about for me. It's iconic but not overtly flashy.
