The Tudor watches that I am considering are the Ranger, 1926, or Glamour Date.

To provide some additional information.

Regarding budget, I would probably rather be keeping closet to the £3,000 than the £4,000. I imagine I would go up to £4,000 if it was absolutely the perfect watch, but £3,00 would be my preference.

Omega is probably my favourite brand in terms of when I envisage great classic watches it's probably the brand I think of. Unfortunately, they are out of my price range in the UK so I do not think they are an option.

For a long time I was very interested in Nomos watches and was intending to buy a Tangente. However, I am now not sure a Nomos is what I want. I would prefer a design that feels a bit more classic.

I was a big fan of the IWC Pilot watches, but some people warned me off them stating that their movements are not particularly good for the price. In the UK they are also above my budget.

As stated above I really like Grand Seiko but I have friends who have tried to convince me not to go this route, arguing that I should focus on a Swiss watch for my first mechanical watch. And also arguing that the affordable Seiko range devalues the brand.

I am a huge fan of Grand Seiko, however, many of my friends make the argument that my first mechanical watch should be a Swiss watch. And I wonder if they have a point.

Some of them also argue that it is not as prestigious a brand because they have the lower cost Seiko watches.

What are people's view of those arguments?

Looking at the UK site for mechanical and spring drive watches under £4,000 the following models come up.

I'm not sure if there are any standpoint models from that selection?

I am a big fan of the Pilot!

Unfortunately it is £4,950 so it is out of budget for me in the UK.

(I note that based on your picture in the US it would be in budget).

Unfortunately a good friend of mine has recently got the blue BB36 so I think it's off limits 😕
