King Seiko

I noticed nobody here has talked about the new(ish) King Seikos so decided to get some opinions. Link here and here.

I’m currently weighing one up against one of the GS quartz (SBGX…) models and am undecided. TBH I think a collection could handle both but my wallet doesn’t.

Almost 2K for a 6R caliber... I would 100% get the 9F quartz instead, it's a way better movement 👌🏻

The 6R caliber is usually considered to be its Achilles' heel. Depends on how much you like the look, I suppose, since the price is arguably high for what you get, but not totally off the charts.

Thanks both, I wasn't aware of the 6R caliber not being great.

6Rxx is great in a watch around $1,000, pushing it a little around $2k. But you're paying for the case, dial, and exclusivity.  And Seiko.

For that money you could get a KS45 in excellent, serviced condition - I'd be looking for one of those.

Seiko sharp edge has the 6r movement for less than 1k. Might be a more affordable alternative to the King Seiko. I like the grand Seiko quartz tho!

It’d be helpful to look at the King and a similar Presage Sharp Edge in person.  I suspect the finishing differences between them are small.

That said, some ~6R35 seikos are pricey when the number is limited and/or they’ve got a very unique dial on them.
