Alternative GMTs

One rule I abide by almost religiously: never get in consumer debt for a watch. I was saving up to get a Rolex GMT Master II. I tried one on. Honestly I was underwhelmed at the $10k+ price tag. I would literally scrutinized the watch the moment it was on my wrist. I’ve seen and tried on better watches for that price tag and justifiably so. So I looked for alternative for a quarter of the cost.

I agree. Rule of thumb is buy what your current income can support. I will never plunk down $10k on my credit card unless I have the cash to pay it off right away. I was in the same boat and had tried on both the Batgirl GMT and the Polar Explorer II. The Batgirl was just the perfect fit due to the case size. But man, is it ever hard to pull the trigger when you see $10k debited from your account.
