Porsche Design Trio - 7176/7750/50th Anniversary

@zachweiss and I getting some of our chronographs together, including his OG packaging! A great design that never seems to age.

I really like the Porsche Design chronographs. I think that the reason I picked up my Sinn 144 was that it had a similar vibe.

Lovely example, @tempus !

So jealous 🤤 Great looking watches. I was staring at the Dan Henry Maverick to scratch this itch but @tempus ’s Sinn has got me ebaying. Great shot and 🔥 collection between you both.

That Sinn 144 is one of my favorite watches in my collection. Super legible, robust and accurate. I was able to pick it up pre-owned a couple of years ago for $1,750 CDN (approx $1,400 USD), which I thought was a great deal.

Recent 80's revival really helped to lift PD into timeless territory. Very cool!

·

The rubber rally strap is great

So based on my research, this is from left to right:

Valjoux 7750

Lemania 5100

IWC?

The one furthest to right is a GP Ice Race edition of the 50th anniversary Chronograph 1 with their Werk (Concepto?) movement inside 👍

Ah the new one!  I'm hunting one down after watching top gun 😊

Which is your favorite reference Blake?

Man that movie crushed it, if I didn't own one I'd be on the hunt right now as well.

So the new one is actually my watch, and I honestly love it. The titanium case and bracelet make it super wearable even with its thickness, and I like that they stayed away from the aged lume treatment here. It legit feels like what they would have made at the time if they could have. Oh, and I love the bracelet taper.

BUT, if I didn't already own a watch with e Lemania 5100, I'd opt for the 7176. But I have an EZM 1 which fills that role in my collection. That reference has a certain undefinable charm that oozes character.

Not a bad one in the bunch if you ask me, though!

Thanks Blake for the thoughtful reflections 😊

These are becoming harder and harder to come by!  My dealer guy is having to look off shore to find one.

My understanding is that Tom Cruise wore the valjoux version in the first movie, we are not sure which version in the new movie but the PVD coating looks brand new.

The 5100 was the only one that was actually used by the military (German air force), and the movement was very shock resistant.

I might have a lead on a 5100 🤞

That's awesome to hear, best of luck in securing one! Will look forward to your thoughts once in hand 👍

You are right, Max. All the aviation branches of the German Armed Forces use watches like these. I am flying in the Naval Air Wing and I received this beauty...

I really enjoy wearing this one. It has a great power reserve and a fantastic accuracy. Even though it is a little bit thicker than other watches (because of the second inner case which protects the movement from radiation in the cockpit) it wears so comfortable.

The brand on the dial is #tutima. On the caseback the is also Porsche Design and Orfina marked.

I can relate why Tom Cruise chose this amazing timepiece and I am so proud that I can wear my Tutima everyday.

So from my perspective I would recommend looking for a watch like this in good used condition or just go for the Porsche Design 👌!
