Escapement Room No. 2: Perfection as a Hipster

"Mom, Dad, I have something to tell you."

"What is it? You can tsll us anything."

"I don't know. I'm afraid you might not accept me for who I reallly am. I've kept this thing hidden because I don't want to be judged."

"It's okay son. We'll love you no matter what."

"I... I... "

"Please. Just tell us."

"I'm a hipster."

...

...

"Mom? Dad?"

"Why couldn't you have been gay?"

In which I talk about being a hipster watch collector.

Kumusta Bruno!

That was an entertaining and interesting piece you wrote!

I'm from Kanuckistan (Canada, for those with no sense of humor) and my "sig other" is Filipina who has lived here in this frozen wasteland for 20 years. Have been fortunate to have visited your beautiful country twice! Love it!

Have to say though, I don't recall ever seeing any obvious "Hipsters" around Manila though! LOL!

BTW, are you aware of the Filipino micro-brands "Ibarra" and "DeGuzman & Co."? Beautiful watches! Ibarra in particular has models that just might appeal to the "Hipster" in you ...

Ingat ka!

Thanks for the compliment. I've seen Ibarra but nothing of theirs had grabbed my attention so far. I've met @natlgiographic, founder of DeGuzman & Co, at the Manila meetups. Nice guy. His watches are more interesting than Ibarra. I will eventually get something from his catalogue.

I agree that DeGuzman tend to be more interesting than Ibarra generally. I do love the red dial DeGuzman Diver with the ancient Filipino "Babayan" script hour markers ... that looks so cool and a tremendous tribute to your history and heritage! 👍
