Steinhart Adventure

Cool thing about homage watches is that you can wear them without fear of scratches.

I agree. But sometimes its good to have one beater in collection. Watch you don't have to worry about

·

Well eng its not my main language, maybe I used this "fear" a little wrongly 😀

·

If I ever get a luxury watch I would also get an homage as well as a backup.

·

omg what a view, where is it sir

Wow what a view!!

Location?

·

Great pic. Beautiful location. I'm jealous of both (activity and watch).

I agree in principle that you should never fear wearing your watch but with the prices of many stainless steel tool/ sports watches climbing above $6k and many over $10k and more lately, it's tough except for the 1-5 percenters to wear these watches and truly put them at risk in sports/tooly situations in the wild.

·

But...I wear the real things anyway..but I get your point. My watches are NOT an investment, they are for my enjoyment only...JMO..Enjoy the hobby!

·

Great shots and beautiful watch. I was so close to pulling the trigger on that exact model. I actually emailed Steinhart to ask if they were going to make a 36mm version. When they told me there were no plans, I ended up going with the Traska.

Great view!

I dislike homage/copy watches personally. Don’t like building and collecting memories with a fake.

No shade, just my preference

Since I plan on keeping my favorite watches forever, it’s NBD to wear them for crazy adventures.

They are part of the story, it adds to their value.

But, there are indeed horses for courses. So of course select watches that are suited for each adventure.

Not at all rich, decidedly average. The watches I’m using have been designed for that purpose so seems crazy to substitute out.

My dad wore a 1967 Rolex explorer his whole life (got serviced twice in 50 years 😂) and it took all his abuse just fine (he bought in ‘67 for 500, after saving up a long time, he wasn’t rich either!)

·

No matter what watch I wear, I'd be scared to do whatever it is you are doing on that mountain 🫣

I understand your point of view. My daily and most important watch is Tudor Prince. This little fella was achievement for me. But I don’t have problem with homage watches. I just like Rolex design but don’t have enough money for owning one 😅

If I will be ever in posesión to own Rolex without any problem I will use them in the same way like you. Who knows what time will bring 😀

The Prince is great! - in my mind you already have a legit and dressy Rolex!

I hear you though - Rolex has become weird in the last decade. In the 60s through 2000 I think it was just a high end tool watch. Then became lux tool, then lux only. Submariners are now for medical professionals and bankers. Not that a Rolex can't be used for what it's designed, but most modern owners wouldn't dare because of the value on secondary market.

So, a counter point: the Rolex below had a 50 years of doing everything/going everywhere, it held up perfectly, and it's value still went nuts, despite being extremely worn in.

Nothing wrong with a place holder watch of course - I just hope you take a real Explorer exploring one of these days when you've finally got one. 😉

Some friendly advise...get your head off of Rolex...they are so many great watches out there that you dont have to beg to purchase..JMO..enjoy the hobby..

·

It's the mindset, not the watch/brand. I wear my Explorer all the time and don't worry about the scratches - they are just a reminder of all the good times you spent with your watch after all, right? 😄

That's the one!

I bought this as a test for a potential Explorer purchase. I now have the Explorer.

Thanks for this great comment! I actually treat these watches as replacements. who knows, maybe in the future the next peaks will be with explorer or ranger 😎

There are no rules. I agree: if I have a $15000 watch on my wrist I am going to FEAR scratching it. If I have one I can afford to replace if necessary,,,No Fear! Cheers!

·

I'd be quite fearful wearing a PP to a dangerous city or a $15000 Rolex scuba diving, oh yes I would. I would certainly be very fearful of either robbery or destroying the value of a used car. Steinhart = no worries.

·

How lovely for you
