What bronze watch should I aim at?

Hey fellow Crunchers!

Ever since I realized that they were a thing, I've had a fascination for bronze watches. At the moment I've got two different pieces on my radar: The Christopher Ward C65 Dune and the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date.

In case I'll be reasonable in time, I might just not buy another watch, but since there's a good chance that this won't happen, I'd be interested in your opinion.

I'm quite into the classic design of the Oris with its cathedral hands and the railroad tracks. Especially the pointer date complication is an amazing feature.

On the other hand the CW offers everything I could ask for: 150m WR (compared to Oris' 50m), COSC certification and also a very appealing design including a well put symmetrical date window. Also the 38mm might just fit me better than the Oris' 40mm (looking at my perfect 38,5mm Sinn 556A as a reference).

To me this is a tough comparison because on one hand, the Oris got that special iconic and timeless design while the CW on the other hand got that somewhat "bold" handset. But the specs of the CW are clearly better while also being listed more than 1k cheaper than the Oris (even almost half the price!)

What's your opinion? Where would you aim at? Do you have experience with one or another model? Is there a relevant difference regarding the bronze alloy of those two? Thanks for your

Been lusting over this Bronze watch for close to two years now and my very first purchase for the new year and prbly 🤞my only big purchase for the year…

I will be concentrating on better watch builds overall… 🍻

I own the bronze big crown pointer date with the red dial on the bronze bracelet. I've had mine for over a year and it has darkened up a lot with a nice patina I would definitely recommend 👍

Personally, I'd go CW... Especially if this ends up being a passing fancy. Then the financial outlay isn't as much.

Definitely oris big crown

·

I like the less cluttered dial of the CW. No opinion on the bronze aspect, however.

Personally I would buy a cheaper version before investing too much. I think it could be an acquired taste.

It’s the Hamilton Khaki Field Bronze that just steals the show for me

I think a bronze watch should be a more rugged type of watch. If I get one it’s likely to be a Khaki field or a CW Sandhurst. I also think that bronze bracelets look tacky, a bronze case with a brown leather strap is the way to go.
