Final thoughts on Rolex @ Watches & Wonders 2024 (and the Pepsi GMT craze..)

After soooo many months of hearing everyone saying that the Pepsi GMT was going to be discontinued, it was so cool to see how Rolex made the Pepsi its highlight at its Watches & Wonders booth.

They had a Pepsi bezel roofline, a big Pepsi GMT display model, some museum pieces and even a materials display case that showed how they come up with the Pepsi bezel.

Also, they gave up a goodie bags and, to my surprise, there was a GMT Pepsi book “Time zone to time zone” that represents the video that they released just recently.

Just clever marketing. Very impressed with this.

Yes, the new releases weren’t that great… blah blah blah… but as a new W&W goer, I was very happy to see that. Also, I’m biased because the Pepsi GMT is my grail.

I genuinely wanted the SS variant Pepsi until I got the call from my AD of the Explorer II Polar. Awesome looking timepiece for sure (the Pepsi) but to be honest I didn't really get that discontinuance hype 😅

Nobody can predict Rolex, so whatever we think, say or do is pure speculation. How are you liking the EII? I love that watch!

Yeah, I hope the Pepsi survives for a long long time so many people who desire can ultimately get a piece for themselves! Good on Rolex for sticking with it notwithstanding how difficult (allegedly) it is in producing the bezel! As for the EII, as a daily, it has been terrific! Seriously, I can't really say anything bad about it... if I had to be SUPER picky, I think the lume isn't as strong/bright as some modern Tudor timepieces but seriously it's just nit pick really...

Yeah, I can see myself wearing that one as a daily. I think it checks all the boxes for what I’d look for on a daily. I’m also liking the (idea of a) new IWC Ingenieur, I’m just having a very hard time with its price. I guess I don’t love IWC enough (yet) to justify it.

Yeah, I completely agree with you re IWC... I actually went in last year to try it on, looks perfect but I just couldn't pull the trigger for the price....... 😅

That would be silly to discontinue a model everyone wants

I don't understand why some still try to forcast what Rolex will do. In the odd chance they guess correct, you will never hear the end of how good their sources are. Truthfully are all aware that no one knows, so put away your magic 8 ball, and wait
