๐จ๐ฆ I have been into watches since I was a kid, started my collection in 2016, at 27, and have been working towards my Perfect 10 watch box since.
Parents gifted me a swatch when I was a little kid, around 8 or 9, and since then I always wore a watch. After some time, it became second nature to have a watch on, and without one the wrist fell โoffโ, so in my 20s i started to really get into watches, and understanding what Iโm into and whatโs not for me. Have been collecting more seriously for about 8 years now, and am 6/10th of the way to my Perfect 10 collection.
Q: What was the first watch you ever owned?
A swatch given to me by my parents - a very simple plastic black and white one. My first โrealโ watch was gifted to me by my wife on 27th birthday back in 2016. It was an Oris Aquis, and this watch reignited my interest in watch collecting.
Q: Do you have a watch with a particularly interesting story behind it?
I have a Blancpain Fifty Fathoms NoRad in my collection, and while my story with it is t particularly interesting, what makes it a curious piece is that itโs one of only 7 allocated to Canada.
Q: What is one piece of advice you have for someone just getting into watches?
Figure out what kind of watch you want first - diver, dress, tool, gmt, etc - make sure it fits your lifestyle and matches your overall style, i.e. if you do manual labour all day, a dress watch is probably not the best option for a daily. Next, figure out the size that worst best for your wrist - try on everything from 36mm to 42mm and see what looks best. Last piece of advice - get the watches you actually want instead of substitutes that are kind of like what you actually want. That wonโt scratch the itch. Better to wait a bit and save up for your desired piece than settle for a compromise.
Q: What brands have been getting your attention lately?
Laurent Ferrier, Gronefeld, and Dornbluth & Sohn.
Q: What is your grail watch and why?
I have two - as is evident by my profile, Iโm quite the Rolex fan, so one of my grails is Rolex Platinum Daytona, as I think it has the best colour combination of dial and bezel, which gets complimented by the warmth of platinum in a way steel just canโt. My second grail is Gronefeld Principa 1941, as I just find the craftsmanship and finish on those watches to be out of this world, and the movement is so intricate one is almost tempted to wear it with the dial down and movement up:)
