Best Entry Into Grand Seiko?

Hey guys,

I've been recently looking at Grand Seiko, and visited their boutique in SoHo. I was really amazed by the sweep that the spring drive movement has, as well as the quartz movements. I would prefer a more sportier model around 38mm. I really liked the SBGA429G, but it was a little pricy for me. Not sure if there are cheaper models but that would be pretty cool. Thank you!

You have great taste, the Soko is a great watch and was my entry into GS. If you can stretch the budget to $3k, it opens up a lot of used Spring Drives. Keep an eye on dealers and Chrono24, you should have a lot to choose from.

Thank you so much! I think I can definetely put some money to the side to save for something around the 3 grand range. I have a couple dealers near me so I'll definitely watch the prices. I am also possibly going to Japan so maybe I can get a little discount when I'm over there.

Keep an eye on Toppers. Every Friday at noon ET they do a drop of watches and frequently have GS.

SBGX261. The 37mm entry level model. Great size, sporty/elegant and just an incredible deal for the price.

You could go for a pre-owned older model to save a little. however as mentioned above the SBGX261 is a great watch. I'm holding out for a spring drive

It’s 40mm, but the new SBGA465 is a looker, and considered one of their entry level models with Spring Drive.  A touch cheaper than the 429.

That said, my first big purchase was the SBGA407. It’s listed at $5,800, but my AD dropped the price to $5,200. So depending on the model there is wiggle room.
