Milestone Watch!!

Been in and out of this hobby since the pandemic. Never thought I’d be interested in watch collecting, watches older than me to be exact 🤣

I was blessed to catch a big break in my profession as a fresh grad. And as much as I can easily afford something more of value to splurge on my first “big boy watch/purchase”, I decided to reach and gravitate towards something that would resonate more with me.

I wanted a watch that exuded “humble begginings”, something that I wouldn’t flip and keep as a reminder of where I was at my life during this time in the near future. and I was looking in the direction of either a Universal Geneve and a couple of Longines dress watches, and somehow someway this little timepiece showed up in my Facebook Marketplace.

Read up on the history of Eterna, and it was right on with what I wanted and represented, a time only, GADA watch that’s a strap monster, with a story so rich and underrated being that they are practically ETA. and a quirky feature this had up it’s sleeve is it has lengthy power reserve of over 49hrs, not bad for a 21k bph 1960’s watch.

So cheers to more life ahead of all of us this 2023! and I’ll be right back, currently on a very extensive honeymoon phase with this beaut! 🤣✌🏽

Congrats I am an Eterna fan and have been looking for a long time.

Especially like the vintage Kontiki but mostly out of reach or poor condition. I did pick up this which is early 70s but in great condition with its original crystal and recently serviced. I like the 1960s styling better but the 1970s dimensions … so continue to keep an eye out.

Enjoy!

I guess its all relative to what you can afford. I have no doubt that if someone can afford to buy a Royal Oak, or a Hublot straight out of college then a Universal Geneve or Longines are very humble watches in comparison! 🙄😜

Congrats. Well done.

Very nice addition. My watchmaker is in the process of a full service of a 1955 Eterna. I love their 1950's and 1960's styling.

Wow I love this one! I’ve never really explored vintage Eterna but have seen a few that caught my eye. What size is this? My guess is 34-35mm.

Manifesting this energy moving forward sir, Cheers! 🍻🤣

From where I reside in the Philippines, vintage swiss watches not named Rolex and Omega suprisingly don’t command hefty prices, and are fairly approachable, like a used banged up Seiko SARB’s is the same price as a vintage Longines 1926, so yes it’s all relative. 😅

Yup! That is correct, love the 1960’s dna in this.

Gorgeous! Here's my 1970 (sold in 1972) Eterna Matic 1000. This was a service watch to a Mr G Notile from the East London Municipality. He dropped the watch off at my watchmaker's father's shop years ago and never returned for it. It sat for a few decades until I came along.

Mine is nowhere near a strap monster with 17mm lugs, but I love the aesthetics of it!

Stunning piece! Fun fact, your post regarding this, swayed me in the direction to pull the trigger on this! I love the idea of a “service watch” that you pointed out. Cheers! 🍻🎉
