The Islander Manhasset: A Short Review

I received my Islander Manhasset in the mail today, after waiting impatiently most of the week. I was torn between the rose gold dial and the ice blue dial, but ultimately went with the rose gold. I’m glad I did, because in person this dial is really something else. The bracelet is comfortable, and the lume on the 3-6-9-12 indices is great. I was happy to read that this model has a sapphire crystal (as opposed to something like hesalite), screw down crown, and 100m water resistance. The exhibition caseback is nice as well. I did have a bit of a problem getting the bracelet sized, because I stupidly took it to a jeweler first (I didn’t trust myself to try to resize the bracelet with no experience). They couldn’t get one of the pins out, but when I took it to an actual watchmaker, he got the bracelet resized no problem. So I guess the take home message here is: don’t go to jewelers if you need something done with your watch; see a watchmaker.

In all, I’m happy with my purchase and will likely buy from Islander again in the future. I love my new watch!

Congrats! Very nice and love the rose gold colorway. Islander is making some quality pieces. A Northport is on my list.

I have the ice blue myself and generally like it. I thought it might be a bit small as I have a 7 1/4" watch, but I am quite happy with how it looks on my wrist. The only shortcoming it has is that the legibility is not as good as I would like given the light blue with the silver hands and markers.
