it's extremely important, that being said the only watch I wear in the water is a $16 Armitron. My daughter who is on the swim team has murdered a bunch of watches that were rated for 200m.
I don't usually dive with my watch because I don't want to bang it in the pool, but water resistance is important to me for the simple fact that I want to be able to thoroughly wash my watches under the tap with a toothbrush. Hygiene is important.
I want my climbing rope to be able to hold thousands of pounds brand new in ideal circumstances, so I don't have to worry about it when it's holding a couple hundred pounds in non-ideal circumstances for an extended period of time. Water resistance isn't life or death for me, but I like having the safety factor.
For a long time I thought I wouldn’t mind either way but lately I’ve discovered that it’s something I truly value. 10bar+ just gives me a piece of mind I can’t explain. It has its downside though, since that effectively crosses out several models on my wishlist.
I do not shower nor swim with my watches. But I want it to be able to resist getting caught in the rain or accidentally falling to a pool. Basically as water resistant as my phone 😂
Student, from the southeast. Love anything Seiko, Seiko mods, Casio, Tissot, and Islander watch. Working every day toward my grail of a white-dial 36mm Datejust on a jubilee bracelet!

If you live anywhere with moisture in the air and spend time outdoors it's important.

Although I've zero interest in getting wet and cold, but it's that overkill and peace of mind in general robustness that is why I wear a diver.
I live above water and know how to remove a wrist watch.
It's dependent on the watch.
For example, I surf regularly, so a GADA watch needs a screw down crown and at least 100m water resistance.
But not every watch I own needs to meet that criteria.
