Watch you never thought you'd love...

My first encounter with a Panerai (PAM) was at a festive gathering in Singapore, where my cousins sported these massive timepieces on their wrists. They had purchased them during Panerai's heyday, amidst all the buzz and excitement surrounding the brand. At the time, I couldn't fathom why anyone would invest five figures in a watch when there were so many other things one could spend on.

My initial reaction was one of skepticism: why splurge on something that appeared overly bulky and cumbersome on the wrist? From then on, my impression of Panerai was always synonymous with "TOO BIG!" or "definitely too heavy and uncomfortable!"

However, years later, as I delved deeper into the world of horology, immersing myself in watch-related content online, my perspective began to shift. It was thanks to the YoureTerrific channel that I stumbled upon the PAM111, prompting me to reconsider my stance.

Perhaps...I thought, "it wasn't as bad as I had imagined?"

And so, the hunt began. Until one fortunate day, I chanced upon a PAM111 on the secondary market at an incredibly attractive price. I saw it as an opportunity to dip my toes into the Panerai world, knowing that if it didn't suit me, I could always sell it.

Upon trying it on for the first time, I realized how mistaken I had been about Panerai. While undeniably robust and sized at 44mm, the rubber strap seamlessly integrated the watch with my wrist, offering a surprisingly comfortable fit. I was elated that I had taken the leap and acquired it.

From that moment on, I found myself constantly drawn to wearing it, to the extent I had to restrict myself just so that my other timepieces have some wrist time as well.

In summary, owning this exquisite timepiece has been a revelation, and I am proud to call myself a Paneristi! 😎

What about you guys reading this post? Have you ever had a watch you initially disliked until you tried it on?

Share your experiences in the comments; I'm eager to hear your stories! 😄🍻

Not really judging anything without the proper knowledge. Where’s the fun in life dismissing something without trying?

That’s the message I’m trying to bring across too. 😉 Was not really into watches in the past, hence didn’t even think about it. So not just towards panerai but towards watches itself

I get to touch it but didn’t get to wear it. Definitely nice on your wrist

So many options. But Pam 111 definitely fill my requirement for a Panerai

My wife likes to try on my watches when we are out having lunch or dinner, ( she recently admitted she does that because it annoys me, haha) one time she slipped on one of my 44mm Pams fitted to an OEM rubber strap, it fitted her well enough that she decided to keep the watch on the whole time we were out. She owes me a Panerai Submersible when she retires in a year or 2, to keep a promise she made one summer when we were in Paris, might be the only reason that I have not added a Sub to me rotation.

Awesome story! I can relate, the things we do to annoy our other half 😂 My wife now decides what watch I wear the next day, sort of becomes our “ritual” now before bedtime. Keep us posted when you eventually got that sub in your rotation! 😉

My wife conned me, we were in Paris just to recharge our batteries before coming back to the grind, she knew that shops in Paris all go on sale at the same time near the end of June. She was ready to buy me the watch as a bribe because I was having a terrible time. However too practical to buy a watch without researching details here in Toronto first. Take good care my friend!

Thats a sound move! I personally have to do tons of research before spending any money on a timepiece. Probably just us watch enthusiasts/nerds(😂) giving ourselves excuses to be expose to more horological content. Nevertheless, keep in touch and take care!
