Cartier is so Underrated

I don’t hide the fact that my favorite brand is Cartier. This post by Oliver Smith Jewelers sums up perfectly why I love this brand (without the hype or oversell)

They had one of the best stands. Also, one of the largest.

No - Cartier are not underrated.

You like them, so do thousands of others, therefore your hypothesis is null and void.

Commercial success definition vs the perception as horological powerhouse. Many commercial successes can be underrated.

But contrarians tend to ignore nuisances in favor or an argument

You wouldn’t have the popularity of the gentleman’s wrist watch without Cartier’s efforts at the start of the last century.

Cartier movement development over the last decade is notable, they form the base calibres for numerous higher end Richemont brands in-house movements including VC.

Cartier have been top 3 in terms of sales for over a decade for Swiss watches: the watch-buying public would disagree, otherwise they wouldn’t be buying them. If people don’t buy, brands don’t survive.

Are they new to you? That’s ok, but don’t conflate your lack of exposure to the brand as an indication of their popularity, reputation, or success, these are all mutually exclusive to the light that you shine upon them. The fact their not means that you would probably appreciate how important they are overall - but yet, they are underrated… I suppose the New Testament would be a better read without that Jesus fellow.

I mean, where else could we look, Chrono24 data? Watchfinder? Other media? YouTube? (maybe Nico could wade in and tell us what we should all think - that’s pretty much how this works now right? Teddy? Maybe JOMW could cover one and then we can all sleep at night knowing that they actually exist…)

You can ignore data, or history, to make your argument. Nuance? We’re back dealing with subjective, perceived ladders of hierarchy again aren’t we? Let’s all forget that market data exists and just exclaim whatever we feel like, that’s how this platform works isn’t it… what are these numbers, why should we trust Morgan Stanley to actually make a coherent document every year of the ins-and-outs of the Swiss watch industry like they have done for over a decade because they put our platforms believed Tudor outside the top 10, and Seiko isn’t on the list?

Lol. It’s literally because of that history that I think they’re underrated. Have people name the top 5 watch brands. Not by sales but by horological significance. They will name Rolex, Patek, VC, AP and then Breguet (maybe not….also underrated) or even Omega BEFORE Cartier. That is the basis of my opinion which you are free to disagree with. But it’s a valid opinion.

I love Cartier and I love my Tank. I am under the impression that majority of Cartier's customers are women, but who cares.. That doesn't bother me at all. A good watch is a good watch. 😎
