Farer Lomoon vs. Seiko Alpinist

I am still on the hunt for my field watch for my 3-4 core collection.

These are the current front runner:

  • Farer Lomoon: I love the design language and inspiration behind it. I love the thought of adding a Swiss movement to the line-up. The pointer date hand is something I do not have in my collection so it would be a nice addition. It would be my first Farer, but I have heard good things about the brand. I am half English too, so adding a British brand also attracts me.

  • Seiko Alpinist: a classic. Perhaps THE Japanese field watch. It was the first on my field watch list, and it is still on it. I love the vintage styling and the compass bezel. The history is so interesting too. Something, and I don’t know what, has held me back from buying it though. Maybe I just need to pull the trigger and get it in person?

What do the crunchers think?

This is a tough one. I have the Seiko Alpinist and am on the waitlist for the Farer Burbidge. If I were to choose, I’d choose the Farer. I love the Alpinist, but it fits me oddly and is the only watch in my collection I’m considering selling, despite it being objectively beautiful and usable. Good luck!

That is my dilemma. The Alpinist is an icon and a beauty. With a storied history and unique styling I do love it, just something holds me back, yet I always circle back to it.

The Farer however is probably the better watch. And is just really pulling my attention.

It’s a tough one!

Hard to choose because I love the Alpinist too and this second crown gives a lot of personnality, but Farer would be my pick, thanks to the pointer date and a more "field" look thant the Alpinist which has a more "explorer" look.
