Xmas Gift for Customer

Question on a watch for a few good customers. I don’t know much about the 2 brands I’m wanting to choose from.

Hamilton

Shinola

Can someone give me some information or tell me which one the most of you would like and which one is the better brand?

Thanks Again

My vote would be for Hamilton. They have a lot of different watches to choose from. You can also negotiate discounts at ADs. I think they offer great value with Swiss movements.

Another decent brand that tends to go under the radar for a lot of collectors. I guess a better place to start would be to know what kind of style your customers like. Desired case size, colors, budget, etc. helps too!

Yes I already know all of what he likes and currently wear. I’m a collector and notice what my customers like and wear. That’s why I’m looking at those brands.

Shinola can be divisive. For a younger person or one that really cares about Detroit or American assembly, they may work. I think they are overpriced and unappealing myself.

Hamilton is a decently known and established brand. Very safe.

FC is supposedly very good for the money but a quiet brand lacking recognition. I'm not really familiar myself, and that's the main risk there: failure to impress by brand recognition.

He typically wears a 40-42 mm, wears darker colors and sometimes pastels, his job keeps him outside, he typically wears 3 different watches, all of his watches are a classic design, leather or rubber straps, he likes the tool look, his watches are all neutral in color, only wears watches with rubber or leather straps. I pretty much know what his style preferences and looks are that’s why these brands are my current selections for him.

Thanks! Based off that, this would be my pick personally.

Hamilton might be a good choice but I do like Shinola’s story about bringing industry back to an American city, some of the Shinola designs are not bad. My son in law did not trust me enough to properly advise him on a first watch purchase when he was still dating my daughter, bought a quartz Shinola from a luxury department store one day when they were just hanging out together. I said that it would not be my first choice but that he is the guy wearing the watch. A few years later he bought a more expensive Shinola with the cash gift his mom gave him when he married my daughter. I say Hamilton my son in law is all in on Shinola.
