Real Bulova movement or fake?

Legit Bulova Ambassador automatic 1972 movement, or fake?

The ''plastic'' ring (see blue arrow) is giving me doubts, if it even is plastic..

Would appreciate any input by those that have more knowledge about vintage Bulova's!

Thanks.

The only similar looking movement I have found is from the Day-Date variant of this model, with a 11ANACD movement instead of the 11ANAC movement.

Look how there is no ''white'' or ''plastic'' looking ring around the movement here.. It looks to be a solid metal ring.

Same as this one from birth year watches. Looks legit to me.

I appreciate you taking the time helping me out! What about the engraved letters in the movement, it seems to me that all movements I find have "clear" engraved letters on it, but this ine has black letters?

What are your thoughts about that?

Thanks!

I see what you mean about the printing rather than engraving. Maybe it's a later replacement rotor. I can't imagine anyone is making clone grade in house bulova movements though.

The movement is a 1972 Manufacture date (N2).

What does the case back marking indicate? The movement looks real but maybe was recased in that watch.

So I don't own the watch... yet. I am looking to start a watch collection, with some vintage pieces to start up with. So I don't have all the pictures you are asking for unfortunately..

Here is the only picture from the backplate I have right now.

If you zoom in, you do see a N2 engraved on it tho.

Exactly what I thought.. Why would these cloning companies waste time on these vintage pieces that are not valued at thousands of dollars.

Again, your time in trying to help is much appreciated!

The ring is likely not original as googling the movement number for images keeps showing a metal ring and a little tab that get screwed to the movement.

I'd doubt that anyone would bother to do a convincing counterfeit movement for this.

Appreciate your opinion and your time helping out! So probably what happened is the ring got replaced one day, but if it was replaced back in the day, I would expect them to replace it with a metal ring. So you could say the replacement was done not that long ago.

Here I found another same movement, with the engravings done in the same way. Interesting to see these 2 different type of engravings tho.

Also interesting that this movement doesn't appear to have ball bearings in the rotor.

Is that a common thing to see in these old watches, or should there be ball bearings in the rotor?

There are so many truly spectacular vintage Bulova offerings for practically free on chrono 24. Idk what’s stopping. They have some excellent modern offerings as well. I should revisit this. I gave a curv away to a friend who wanted a cool watch. Still miss it.

It's a piece of history.

I hope you get a piece of it back for yourself one day!
