Sbgk005 vs 015

As I'm sure many here can relate, I'm obsessed with watches. This year I've gotten a bit carried away with watch spending and had promised myself to behave. In 2019 I had fallen in love with the sbgk005 and purchased from my local AD. I was minding my own business last month when the same AD called and asked if I'd be interested in the 015, which they were very excited to have gotten. So I went to look at it and bought it. Now I'm struggling to decide if I can justify keeping two watches that are essentially the same model but different dials.... This watch hobby is fun but can get very expensive.

A GS man 👌 both pieces are beautiful. i would easily justify keeping both. Different dials make this an easy call

Congrats, man!

No, of course you cannot justify two nearly identical watches… and yet we all do somehow!

Me: OMG!!! Check out this amazing Minamo dial! It is the perfect simulacrum of the ripples on Lake Suwa as the sun begins to set in late autumn

My wife: Oh, that’s nice. But don’t you already have a blue watch?

Worse comes to worst, you can list the SBGK015 on Chrono24. They seem to be turning over at a pretty good clip at ~$11k.

I mean, that’s fair. If two watches are the same color, they’re basically the same.

I don't see what the problem is. Sure, the watches look identical other than dial color & texture, but  the dial color & texture is one of their main selling points, and those dials are very different. I have a similar issue with the Santos De Cartier. I ended up buying the version with the black dial and SS/ADLC bezel (WSSA0037), but had a very touch time choosing between it and the blue dial (WSSA0030). Since I bought mine, they have come out with a couple of other dial variations that I also like.  I'd be lying if I said I haven't been tempted to add another to my collection, even though they are identical apart from the dial/bezel/bracelet. There are too many other watches that I can see adding to my collection before that, but if I were to ever stumble upon a great deal, I can see myself having 2 Santos.

Keep the light blue if it comes to it.

There's really no problem other than the fact I need to watch my spending. But I agree with what you've said, and that's pretty much why I ended up with both 😆.

I need to watch my spending as well, which is why I don't have multiple Santos 😀

My heart says that they are completely different watches, but my brain tells me that they're essentially the same watch. If I had unlimited funds, I'd let my heart win, but since I don't, logic trumps emotion.

I would go for the 015.... but in that range of U$S I would probably go for several 70´s seikos instead of that one... but you probably already have them, dont you? Seiko Monaco, Bullhead, Panda, Pogue, Helmet, etc

I have a few, this is the one that gets a lot of time especially on vacation or when outdoors/swimming

They are both gorgeous but I’m a sucker for a darker navy blue. If I had to choose between the two I’d keep the SBGK 005.

I think.

I always try to ask myself, aside from the hype or harder-to-get element, which would I choose. And I think if it came down to the watch without any other factors, I'd probably choose the 005 as well.

When the question comes up "Don't you already have a ....?" I jump right into handbags and shoes. It's illogical and petty but it works most days. Isn't this technically a Subset GS Collection? We live in a time when you give something a name it's real! Let's call these two GS Beautiful watches a Subset Collection and keep em' both!
