I sometimes think 40mm is too big for a general purpose watch, but I also sometimes think ot fits just fine. Using a Hirsch strap so I can swim with this.

Smaller is more comfortable to wear.
Too big for you, perhaps. But not everyone. On some wrists that would look childlike. There’s no blanket rule that applies to all.
I have a 19cm wrist, the smallest watches I wear are 40mm. But I feel more comfortable with 42-45mm watches. 😉
I think that fits you fine, and I do not like big watches. That’s nice, reminds me a little of the Patek
