COCKTAIL TIME

So it happened, I have now joined the ranks of the Seiko enthusiasts.  For my birthday, my wonderful wife gifted me this beautiful Seiko Presage "Cocktail Time" SRPB46. This is the first time I have owned a brand new Seiko unless you count my Grand Seiko.  My wife caught me lusting over this watch in the mall but I would have never bought it because of my idiotic way of collecting.  This watch did not check off any of the boxes for my complications collection so I would have saved the money and used it towards a different piece.  Now that I have it I will be reaching for it often to wear with yellow, navy and brown sport shirts and suits.

Congratulations.

Congratulations! I would have probably owned a Cocktail Time by now if Seiko wouldn't stubbornly insist on ruining the symmetry of those beautiful dials with a date window. Yours and the Mojito are my favorite ones.

Very nice Manhattan, was eyeing that o e up myself the other day... Welcome to the cocktail time addiction

An absolute classic of a watch. 👌

Happy birthday! 🎂🎉🎁

Beautiful watch! I unfortunately had to sell mine because as a dress watch, it was just too big for my wrist.

If they ever make a 38mm I’ll buy one again.

Your wife has great taste! And the watch looks great on your wrist.

This isn't helpful but here is one without the date window. Again, not being helpful 🥲

Gorgeous watch! Wish Seiko would do more <40mm time only watches. The dials are certainly worthy of it, but I understand that more people prefer a date window.

I'm certainly one in that camp as well, preferring a date of the watch as I usually reference it, but still, having a symmetrical dial is such a luxury - having a watch that is time only may suggest that you don't care about the date - you aren't working right now, just enjoying the time and time only.

I totally get people's need for the date window, Kenneth! For me, however, it's a combination of 1. wanting to preserve the dial's symmetry, 2. having to constantly reset the date when you have quite a number of watches in rotation (that's why I will only tolerate a date window on my quartz watches, if ever) and 3. I'm in my 60s and it's not really that easy to see the date any more, lol. So I guess you can say that I'm just enjoying the time that I have left on this earth and don't really care what date it is. 🤣

All really great points. The dial symmetry is really enjoyable, I can understand the taste of not wanting to ruin it. And I agree that having a collection means having the date sometimes off, kwikset dates are a blessing. And with me, I have a perpetual calendar, and if this wasn't quick set, I'm not quite sure I would tolerate it as much. With having the calendar, the date isn't as bad for me.

There is an irony in a perpetual calendar and very much to your third point, that those who could appreciate a perpetual calendar often struggle to see the information it displays lol. Sadly, I'm still in my work hard work hustling years and so I am a slave to the need of a date. I in the coming days, I aspire to be you, to be more carefree about having to care what day it is!
